B2evolution / My B2evolution site
« on: November 04, 2017, 06:05:41 PM »
I'm really taken by B2evolution, and I'm using it to experiment with a domainers blog. I'll post more about the software when I'm a bit further into the creation of the site. In the meantime, you may be interested in the current progress. I've called the blog Name Stag, and you can view the site by clicking the following link.

Domain name discussion / The Name Pros domain name forum
« on: July 12, 2017, 02:42:51 PM »
Net barons is a small information forum which supports the Baronets domain management service. Several people have asked me for a link to a larger more active forum for domainers. They wanted one with active trading boards, and a legal advice section.
I'm a member of the Name Pros forum, and this is a long established forum for professional domainers.

I was cruising through the drop lists whilst I was having a quiet coffee, and I noticed a quirky phrase amongst the .coms.For some reason it appealed to me, and after thinking about it for a while, I realised that the name could be used for political comments about the UK government and their approach to Brexit. The name as it stands probably has no value, but I registered it, and decided to promote the site. As part of this, I thought it would be useful to document the stages from registration through to the completed site. So what was the name?

I'm interested to see if you can use a catch phrase to promote a domain name and the associated web site. I like the phrase As the coconut drops. Which has virtually no search results. I think it is a great expression to reflect on some of our current political problems. I registered the name As the Coconut Drops and I'll use it as a political allegory site.

Here is a handy tool to check on the availability of names across a range of TLDs and social media user names.

The modern use of audio / Teamspeak channels
« on: January 13, 2017, 06:23:22 PM »
I've been experimenting with Teamspeak recently, and I'm really impressed with it as a tool for domainers and webmasters. It was developed as a tool to help teams of gamers work together when playing multi-user role playing games. It allows a voice communication system to be superimposed on the main program running on a computer. It's hands free if you use a voice activated microphone and head phones, and conversations cane be recorded.

You can find out more about it in this wikipedia article -

I am considering adding a Teamspeak channel to Net Barons

Domain name discussion / English Gold - a niche TLD venture
« on: December 12, 2016, 02:17:39 PM »
I've decided to experiment with some of the new niche TLD names, and English (dot) Gold is my first venture. So far, I'm quite pleased with the results, but until I can get some paid adverts onto the site, then it's going to be difficult to see if the name was worth the extra registration fee.

Domain name discussion / .xyz names

xyz seems to be getting some traction as an alternative to .com. With Google and Alphabet adopting them, it looks as if they are going to become a growing asset for domain investors.

Domain name discussion / 'Twas the night of renewals

I saw this post on Name Pros, and I thought it was great, To view the full poem, click this link

'Twas the night of renewals

‘Twas the night of renewals, and all ‘round the ‘net’
Not a buyer would aid with my mountain of debt.
My names were all listed at auction with care,
In the hopes that end users would flock to them there.

My bottom was nestled all snug in the couch,
While visions of failure caused me to slouch.
And mama in her anger, and I with my pride,
Had just settled in to argue our sides.

Domain name sales / The Baron is giving away free web hosting
« on: November 26, 2016, 02:58:43 PM »
The Baron has started listing his "flip" names on the Flip Dump site. Name flipping has been a quick selling method between domainers, but The Baron wants to introduce the concept to end users, and he is offering free hosting with all of his names sold via The Flip Dump. Buyers will get a month of free hosting to test the traffic, and to give them time to build their main website. Hosting is provided by WSWD web hosting{/url] , and the one month hosting is the basic budget plan. Of course, upgrades are available by negotiation with WSWD. Buyers and sites must comply with the standard terms and conditions for WSWD hosting.

Our new Flip Dump site is now open. It provides a free venue for you to list the names you are flipping. Please don't list adult gambling or pharma names, as we are providing "family friendly" sites.

The coffee lounge / I've opened registration for new members
« on: November 25, 2016, 06:50:04 AM »
Apologies for leaving it closed for so long. I statted to receive a lot of spam across a number of my sites, and I disabled all user interaction to  avoid spending hours deleting spam and strange messages.

New membership reuires admin approval, and I apologise for this, but I hope this will keep the boards clean and interesting.

The coffee lounge / Sorry I've been away from the forum for a while
« on: November 25, 2016, 06:38:22 AM »
I've been sorting out my domain portfolio, adding a few more names to it, and starting a few monetising projects. I've also been experimenting with audio recording.

Presta Shop / Too many inodes
« on: November 25, 2016, 06:35:57 AM »
I've had to remove my demo shop for Presta Shop. I found tht it was using about 12,000 inodes, and, as I had it installed on a budget hosting package, it was preventing me from hosting some other domains that use CMS software.

Domain name sales / xyz1 - My domain name auction and listing site
« on: November 13, 2016, 05:41:59 PM »
Well, I'd like to tell you that there is some deep significance in the name xyz1 for my domain name listing site, but the truth is far more prosaic. Some years ago I registered the name because I noticed that it was being used as an example name on quite a few sites. I've kept it, but haven't used it much. During an over-caffeinated session on the computer at McDonalds ( I was testing the free WiFi as well as the coffee), I decided to use it to create a domain name auction and listing site, and this is the result.

xyz1 - a private domain name listing and name auction site

The site is still under development, so I will be adding names, and filling in the help and information pages over the next few weeks.
